Climatic variability and extreme weather events are increasingly impacting crop yield and value. UNTWIST addresses this challenge and will take advantage of the climate-resilient, traditional European oilseed crop camelina to provide a mechanistic understanding of successful adaptation strategies to drought and heat stress. Moreover, it will develop predictive models and robust markers for crop performance for variable environments. UNTWIST´s long term aim is to improve crop resilience and yield stability in changing, challenging climates; its legacy will contribute towards increasing the sustainability of European agriculture.

Behind UNTWIST´s Plant Adaptation Knowledge Hub

In this interview, the FZJ team presents the UNTWIST Plant Adaptation Knowledge Hub, an online platform making complex data on camelina accessible to farmers, researchers, and policymakers. They explain how interactive tools and visualizations help users explore genetic, physiological, and agronomic information. The team shares the motivations behind creating the Hub, aiming to turn raw data into actionable insights for climate-smart agriculture. They also reflect on the challenges and rewards of developing a user-friendly, dynamic platform for global use.

UNTWIST IN THE AUSTRIAN MEDIA

The UNTWIST project has received great response in the Austrian media. As part of the documentary “Our Weather: Between Drought and Flood” by ORF (Austrian public broadcasting) initiative “Mother Earth: Climate and Nutrition”, which was broadcasted on Austrian television in early summer, Claudia Jonak explained how plants respond to water limitation, the benefits of camelina and the aims of the UNTWIST project.
