UNTWIST – SUCCESS STORY
The Austrian Research Promotion Agency FFG showcases UNTWIST as a best practice Horizon 2020 project in their #SuccessStory series (https://www.ffg.at/news/success-story-untwist-vom-leindotter-fuer-die-klimaresistenz-lernen) and highlighted UNTWIST during the Horizon Europe kick-off event “Research and development for a healthy planet” on 16th February 2021. In their commentary, the FFG emphasizes the integrative multi-disciplinary approach of UNTWIST bringing together eight partners from six countries to advance the understanding of crop tolerance to harsh environmental conditions by deciphering the stress resilience of the oilseed crop Camelina sativa. The data generated by UNTWIST will contribute to cope with the challenges caused by climate change in European agriculture by providing predictive models, locally adapted camelina varieties and agronomic management strategies that farmers can implement in climate-resistant cultivation systems.
Referring to the added value of EU-funded collaborative projects such as UNTWIST, the project coordinator Claudia Jonak (AIT) explains: “The EU project UNTWIST enables us to realize a large research project in an international consortium and to establish strong and stable network structures. Complex, urgent challenges, such as those of a resilient agriculture in the face of climate change, can best be addressed through the collaboration of experts from different specialist areas. “
